General Product Safety Regulation(GPSR)

Starting 13 December 2024, the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will take effect. This regulation is aimed at improving the safety of all consumer products sold in the EU, both online and offline. For businesses and sellers on platforms like Amazon, this means stricter safety and traceability rules, as well as new responsibilities. The GPSR is an important step to make sure consumers in the EU are protected. While this can bring challenges for sellers, it also creates chances to build trust through better compliance.

What is the GPSR and why is it important?

The GPSR requires that all consumer products sold in the EU meet safety standards, even if they are not covered by other EU rules. This creates a broad “safety net” for EU consumers. Key points for marketplace sellers include:

• Product compliance: Making sure all technical documents and test reports are complete and meet safety standards.
• Product labelling: Following updated labelling rules.
• EU-based representative: Non-EU brands must appoint a representative based in the EU to handle compliance.

These rules ensure that all products, no matter where they come from or how they are sold, meet the same safety standards.

Our approach to GPSR compliance

1. Product categories
   We have divided our product range into three groups to make compliance easier:
• Brands outside the EU: These products need to have an EU-based representative to comply with GPSR rules.
• Brands within the EU: These products are usually compliant but still need their safety documents checked.
• Own brands: Our own brands (Challenger, Profec, Flotide, Norsup, Torsino+, etc.) will be fully checked to make sure they meet all technical and safety rules.


2. Resources for resellers
   We want to make the compliance process simpler for our resellers by offering:
• Product documentation: Download product documents e.g. safety documents from relevant product pages by clicking on the "Attachments" tab. Product dimensions can be found online per product, or in the downloadable epco product catalogue. For any other documentation please contact us..
• Contact information: A complete list of all brands, including contact details for our own brands, to make accessing compliance information easier.
